I will be doing ribs on Memorial Day, but I smoked some wings for the wife yesterday to take the grill out for a spin.

As promised, here are the ribs I did on the new smoker. 4 hour smoke at around 225 and then cranked the temp to caramelize the bbq sauce on them. The smoker held the temp within +/-25 so that was really nice. Only had one issue during the whole 4 hours. About 2 hours in I went out to spritz the ribs and noticed that the temp had dropped below 100. I pulled the ribs and grill components to find that the fire pot was full of pellets and the igniter wasn’t firing. Cleaned the pellets and ash out, restarted, and everything went without issue the rest of the time.

I see Your grill suffered a flame out during your last cook, that fortunately you were able to catch and fix... I have 2 questions that may help.. Did You clean the fire pot out after your last cook using a shop vac and did you preheat your grill at 300* degrees for at least 20 mins before starting your cook? I remember May of last year, I had suffered a flame out with my Austin XL by not following those two steps... Now, I always preheat my grill for 20 mins @ 300* degrees and when I’m done cooking and when the grill has cooled, I always shop vac the fire pot and entire grill of ash. Some may think that’s a lot of work, but it take me all of 5 mins and I haven’t suffered a flame out since. Also, it’s best to run Your grill with a full hopper of pellets if possible and check the hopper every couple of hours to ensure the pellets are flowing down into the Auger Tube smoothly without tunneling... Their is a learning curve with each Pellet Grill, so take notes with every cook until you’re fully comfortable with your grill and never take short cuts in prepping your grill. “Set it and Forget it” is the term associated with Pellet Grills and that is mostly true... As long as the Preheating procedures are done for every cook and the fire pot is kept clean of ash. Oh and those Ribs look great!!

I use my small shop vac before every use and I did preheat my grill to 350. Not sure it was twenty minutes but I know it was close. I’ve read that this happens with pellet grills from time to time. After cleaning it out again and getting it fired back up, everything went fine with no additional problems.
