Hello,
I have a smoke hollow electric smoker the heating element will heat up but the cord is not making a good connection and is arcing is there anywhere i can get a replacment element and cord or is there anyone out there who can tell me how to fix this problem?

Its really hard to say without having the thing right in front of me with the back open so the end of the cord is visible where it meets the element contacts. If its just corrosion where the cord meets the element you can usuall clean it up and re attach it easily. If however the element itself is starting to show signs of breaking down then its toast and needs to be replaced. Really hard to say without actually seeing it.

You may try taking it to a appliance repair shop and see if they can redo the connection using high temp connectors for dryer elements.

DO NOT use the basic crimp connector for auto repair since they are not rated for high temperature operation and will oxidize over time from the heat and fail.

Hello, Thanks for all the help guys, I fixed it last night, lol I bought a new heating element and thermastate cord. should be here 5 - 10 days. I will be getting a MES from Walmart. they have them online it is free to ship to a local store their price is $194.00. www.walmart.com seems like a good deal. Thanks again,
Dan

I forgot to mention what the problem was. The prongs that plug into the cord, one of the ends came apart, I tried to clean and crimp the female end tighter, that will work for now but the new parts have been ordered the whole fix was just $58.00, not to bad to get me by until the new MES gets here. and finally one more question, what is a otbs member and what do I need to do to become a member? I gotta get rid of that newbie rating

Thanks again all,
Dan

To get rid of that you need to post a lot of good q-views and post to other threads. it's a quantity post thing. I forget the number of posts it takes but hang in there.

Check out the OTBS here. You need to have been here 9 months or more and achieved certain criteria. All this is explained in my link.

To get rid of the newbie rating, just up your post count and some other equally inane designator will automatically be assigned to you.

Or you can go into user cp and type almost anything in there that you want to.

If you opt for a Premier membership you will automatically get that designation in Green saying that you are an SMF Premier Member.
