Just got my rook wool to insulate my smoker. still interested in finding out who is using an electric heat element and who devoted to use a fire box

Nice that you were able to get yours in solid sheets. When I built my smoker from a commercial fridge, all I could find was about 3" thick batting.
 
I use electric with a PID controller... and a smoke tube... I like electric as you can set it up to ramp temps up automatically.. With a firebox you will almost have to sit there and babysit it the full time...
I can start a batch when I go to bed and it will be done in the morning when I get up ...
