I bought 3 pork picnic roasts yesterday along with a few other things on the trip. I thought everything made it to the fridge but one of the picnics slid out of a bag and under my seat in the truck. I found it today.

Q: Is it still good if it is in the cryovac?

I tossed it in the fridge. I'm wondering if it will be ok since it was contained in the packaging and I'll be curing it anyhow, or has the damage already been done? I know the rule of thumb is when in doubt, toss it out. I just hate to send this little fella to the can if it's good to go. Ughh..

What was the temp of the meat when you found it? How long was it out in the vehicle ?

Unless it stayed under 40 degrees the entire time. I would toss it.

In short if it was safe to keep above 40 degrees when cryovac packed the suppliers would not spend the money on keeping it cool.

It sucks, but be glad it was not a gallon of milk and you find it after a couple days of baking in your truck in the Florida summer heat. Take my word for it, it really stinks and is a mess to clean up......

I didn't check but the outside air temp today was in the low nineties.. Vehicles run 10-15 degrees higher here...

Thanks for the encouraging words..

Maybe I can give this one to the inlaws??

I had no intention to use this roast, but I wanted to post the topic for others to find in a search.

Ohh how I hate to toss meat without even having the chance to ruin it in a smoker..LOl

It took months for the smell to get out. I had to take seats out and flush them with a hose to get the milk out of the seats. I was one of the worse smells I ever had to endure. One day I had to carpool with someone and told them the smell was gone. She looked at me about a mile down the road and said it was not gone and opened the window and stuck her nose out.

That almost seems like a job for a collision shop.

I blame it on the plastic grocery bag and not my ability to inventory my groceries. If it had been in a paper bag, it would not have rolled out.

I had that same thing happen with a baby bottle - could not find the source for nearly 3 weeks

Glad you knew not to use that roast too

The thing that really gets me is I have to go back and buy another one... I'll compensate for my grief and buy two..

Here's a little tip for ya... Lamp Berger..it is a catalytic air cleaner...runs on alcohol and essential oil.

I run mine in the car and it eliminates the cigar smell completely..

Get em on ebay and find the recipe to mix essential oils and high grade alcohol.
