Crazy Texas Weather

Weather in Texas has always been unpredictable. But this last week has been Plumb Crazy.

Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday we had temps down in the Teens, It is 10:00 AM and the temp is 75º already. Yesterday we got to 79º, the day before all the way to 80º.

The next several days they are calling for rain and temps in the low 70's to down in the 50's

And this is January !!!

Gary

this has been an unusual year  everywhere , here in Colorado is been doing kinda the same  thing one day we have below zero 3 days later its back in the  50s normally we have winds when  a cold front moves thru about 40-50 mph lately we have been getting winds of 70+  late Monday here at my house the tv station said we had winds of 97 i lost my home weather station and part of my house at 71 mph

Hell has frozen over here! We have set anew record for accumulated snow fall! Have been above freezing once or twice since Thanksgiving.

Kids have missed 5 days already (another new record) Then this morning a gym at one of the schools collapsed from snow. District cancelled all school for today and tomorrow to do district wide assessment of buildings. That will make 7 days, which they have to make up.

Currently I have 30" in my yard (this is not the areas I have shoveled on top). The piles in these photos are 6'+, this is where we are shoveling to clear driveways and such.

I live in Northern California and I guess I have it better off than most people do.  All I have gotten is 9+ inches of rain since January 1[sup]st[/sup].  Still it messes up my being able to smoke anything.

Richard,

Don't you have a retired golfing umbrella that you can strap to the smoker?    LOL.   Oh and Case, you can keep that white stuff.

We haven't had much snow this year but the temps are like a yo-yo. Single digits to the fifty's in a day or two and back to the 20s for a couple days then back to the 50s and etc. Lots of rain but thankfully it wasn't snow. Now they're saying we're going to get a half inch of ice this weekend...

74º here this afternoon and Ice warnings and sleet in the Panhandle

Gary

Yup, crazy weather here too.   Its been a warm winter as the last couple have been.   Not complaining thou.

In the last 3 weeks, I left Wisconsin (for Bryan/College Station/Houston/Galveston TX) where they were basically shutting the state down the next day due to cold and snow:  was packing the truck in -1 with -26 wind chills on 12/15.  Spent the night in St. Louis, and an hour down I-44 to Rolla, we get a welcoming committee of ice and vehicles everywhere--what's usually a little over an hour, took three to Springfield.  Get to Aggieland night of 12/16, and 12/17 pushing 80--next day, it barely gets above freezing.  From there, the temp's mostly above 75, and golf in shorts.  Nirvana.

Get back to WI, and we've 45 one day, and -1 the next.  Kids were out of school this past Wednesday:  Monday night snowed with widow-maker snow which turned to rain midday on Tuesday.  Temps were low 40s, water everywhere, and then, WHAM!!  The bottom fell out of the thermometer on Tuesday with a "flash freeze"--all that water had no place to go because of snow piles covering storm drains and froze.  Awoke Wednesday to a giant ice rink that hasn't gotten any better in parking lots, ancillary streets, and driveways.  And the best part?  Forecast is calling for more ice on Monday.  WHEEE!!!!

If that fricking groundhog shows up on 2/2 with a prediction of 6 more weeks of this crap, I will personally drive to Pennsylvania and beat the damn rodent into submission.  Plus I know a couple of Creole boys who'd love to take a crack at smoking that varmint.

And now, 42 degrees and raining... glad the sausages I'm making today don't require smoke!
65º here no rain partly cloudy  and we are only a hundred miles apart !!!

Gary

Yep, dad is dry out at the farm as well. Won't be long and we'll be back in shorts and flip flops tending the fire.
I'm in shorts and barefooted   we did git .30 inches of rain last night been running the AC for a week

Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like to play with a smoker in the cold! Was beginning to think I was a big sissy making mostly fresh sausage in the winter...
We had freezing rain this morning but it's supposed to be in the upper 30s tomorrow afternoon with no rain, so I can fire up the mailbox for the kielbasa I'm mixing today and at least get a little smoke on it. No need to hang out in the cold 'cause a mailbox tends itself....

At 1:20 PM its 75º and humidity at 84% no breeze Muggy, Muggy
