Does anyone know what a gtb31.tmp.exe is? Everytime I connect to the internet now I get a Norton pop-up telling me that "gtb31.tmp.exe is attempting to connect to a DNS server."

The number changes everytime. Spybot doesn't find anything and neither does Norton when I run a scan.

Any ideas? I can't seem to find anything online.

Not much info about that that I could find.
Only thing I came across is that it was a Google Tool Bar so if you have any recent programs that you installed check them for a toolbar add on that you may have missed.

Sounds like a virus, after a quick look up on the net I came up with this

(tmp.exe is a process belonging to an advertising program by 123bar. This process monitors your browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's servers for analysis.\r This also prompts advertising popups.\r This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.)

Try running an anti virus program.. Trend, Norton or the like

Good find! It is all a part of the greater effort to capture web sites you go to to tailor ads geared to your browsing habits. In other words, adware/spyware.

It is a virus.
Go here and clean it...

Suggest you run Malwarebytes,,, it should eliminate it easily. Run it in Safe-Mode as this critter runs in the background.

I wholeheartedly agree with TnTx~ on malwarebytes. This past weekend I caught a trojan that was using my computer for mass emailings and had this stupid "ha-ha your computer is infected" type desktop that I could not get rid of. After running every cleaner I had (mcaffee, house-call etc) nothing worked and I ran into MalwareBytes' site.

Took about 45 min to download (dialup) and about 15 min to run it. It worked like MAGIC and not only zapped that stupid trojan, but found 145 other viruses and things the others missed. After rebooting my computer runs as fast as it did right out of the box....and in dialup too! I had forgotten how fast a system is supposed to run.

Best thing about MalwareBytes is that it is FREE.

Check out their stuff Dude, you will be glad you did.
