I have had a CG Gravity 980 for 3 - 4 years. Moderate use during spring/summer/fall; it stays outside all year, but is on the covered deck. I love the way it grills and how it smokes ... when it works. For example, on Sunday, I was smoking a couple slabs of baby back ribs and was about 3/4 of the way through the process when it suddenly stopped working.
Last year it started giving the ErF code, indicating a fan malfunction. Sometimes it would display the code before even starting, other times it would display the code half-way through the cook. After going through the steps to troubleshoot and ending up with the same problem, I replaced the fan; but I had to replace it 3 times in the fall. And this year, I've already replaced the fan twice. I ordered the fans from Amazon and tried different brands, although I suspect that they are all made in the same factory.
The flap looks okay.
This is exceedingly frustrating ... I hate to not be able to trust it, but I never know when it's going to throw the ErF code. Tonight, I'm supposed to grill pork chops for a group of friends, but I'm already worried that it won't work.
I'm hoping to get some suggestions on what to try to make it reliable, whether there's a modification to make, or a particular model of fan to purchase, or whatever.
I'd prefer to make this unit reliable, but if there's no hope, I'll be looking for a new grill/smoker ... anyway, Fathers Day is only a couple months away.
Thanks for reading.
All ideas are appreciated.
Thanks,
Ghost River
