So after reading what others have done I decided to try out these mods. Nothing fancy, just put a piece of 8X18 inch steel over the opening and added dryer vent.

After 45 minutes of testing the temps from right to left are 200, 250 and 175. I'm trying to figure out the temps because I placed an oven thermometer just under the left temp gauge and it's reading about 225 ish.

What are you using to get the first three temps? Are they calibrated  so you know they are accurate? That really matters.

Middle therm is factory, left is a brinkman gauge and right is a char broil. All 3 were checked via boiling water and a digital therm.

Sounds like you got that!  May try adjusting your steel plate slightly. Like a quarter inch at a time. I'm not sure of your rig so just trying to give some ideas based on my SFB. Maybe others will be able to help more.

I hear you. I may move the plate or get another one to force the heat to move upward farther to the left of the chamber.

Yes. Another plate or two might make it act more like a true RF. Worth a try! Be sure to let us know how it turns out.

I'll probably get another plate tomorrow. Plan on cooking a brisket on Sunday.
