No paint on the inside.
It gets a nice coating of seasoning.
Why would you want to?
You post a good question actually. People may think that once the inside of the barrel is cleaned out, one would want to make sure it stays that way. What you want is the smoke film to build up on the surface. That film is what will keep the barrel from rusting inside.
