Can You Paint a Galvanized Garbage Can?

I buy charcoal in the multi-bag bundles whenever one of the big boxes runs a special. I empty the bags into a galvanized garbage can - the old fashioned kind. I also store my Weber stack lighter can in it.

My War Department doesn't like the looks of shiny galvanized garbage cans and wants me to paint it to make it more pleasing to her eye. Can this be done by run of the mill DIY skills? What kind of paint should I buy?

Well , I'd start by asking the "BOSS" what color she would be pleased with , whether it should be Flat , Mat or Gloss . Then ask if she had  any patterns in mind  or a special scene she likes...

Then we come to special added features. Should you line it with a Linen or Silk Liner. Or maybe you could just Sew up a little Elastic topped stockinette to put it in , you could make several and she could change them up with the seasons.

We used to build hog feeders out of galvanized trash cans and would wipe them with vinegar then spray paint them and it held up fairly well
