OK before the kids came my wife and I enjoyed camping quite a bit. Now that my youngest is 4 we are going to start camping again this summer. I usualy get a cheap rectangle grill that lasts the summer but this year I was thinking of maybe getting a Weber Kettle but then I saw for the same price I could get a ECB or if I am lucky a char-broil double chef. I have an MES 40 that I love to use and turns out great grub. Would it be feassible to grill off a ECB and have a good back-up smoker or is the grilling gonna lack on said unit and I should stay with a kettle type grill. Camping will probably be once or twice a month during the summer with some fishing thrown it for good mesure. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

I think an ECB would make a great camping grill/backup smoker. Cheap, portable, easy to use. For high heat grilling just remove the water pan and let it get hot. Best of all you can find them on Craigslist for under $40 all the time.

That's what I do, but instead of just removing the water pan, you can actually remove it and place the charcoal bowl directly below the grill. Works great, light and small, easy to lug along for the camping trip. I love to smoke when I am out camping, gives me a reason to stay at camp while the family is out hiking and crap, I hate hiking unless I have a firearm in my hands.

Thanks for the advice looks like winner winner chicken dinner. Now how many toys is too many.

I'm with the Rodriguez on this one just maybe one more from when the wife sayd no but then 2 short of the lawyer phone calls. You should look up some of Jeanie's (cowgirls) smmokes at a campsite if you want to be impressed with some campsite smoking an grillin.
