rec'vd my amazn and picked up the MB 40" Newgeneration at Cabelas. Asked salesman about wiring/element issues. He said masterbuilt had came to all stores and replaced/repaired all units and the problem has been corrected, this was Friday 10/5/12. Another note: I read a notice posted by BassPro under the review of one of the MB units that the company(MB) has corrected this prob in all their units. So this info as well as the rave reviews on this site helped me decide to buy this unit, I also bgt Cabelas 2 year extended warranty.

Wondering what experiences others have with this unit pro/con. Anything I need to be ware of other than seasoning...I'm total newbie and this is my very first smoker. Can hardly wait to sink my teeth into some brisket.

With this new hobby I hope to smoke sausages, bacon, butts, briskest and many other foods in due time. I expect a long learning process and any suggestions apprec.:sausage:

Hmmmm.....  "Masterbuilt had came to all stores and replaced/repaired all units and the problem has been corrected".

I would be a little suspicious of that statement, or anything a "salesman" would tell you. Somehow I just don't see Masterbuilt, who has their products manufactured in China and dropped shipped, would fly technicians all around the USA to repair units in stock.  I may be wrong, but I don't think I have ever heard of such a thing in a product in that price range.  More likely they would drop ship repair kits and someone in the store chain would do the repair.  First clue would be the condition of the box.  Does it have the original packing tape seal intact or has it been opened?  If it's intact, it ain't been repaired/modified by a factory rep unless they also brought new boxes with them.

I guess time will tell though.

On a positive note (man I sounded negative this morning), congratulations on the new smoker.  You will love it and if there are problems, this is the place to get help. So, make sure to post info on your first smoke in the new MES (with photos).

Okay y'all, I gave ya a good laff, I'm sure a tech fom China did just that.... My assumption is MB contracted ppl to fix/repair the probs with the wiring/connectors. No matter, I bgt Cabelas extended 2 year warranty for back up. I was just passing on the info I found out so others would know b 4 buying. Since I'm new to this and had researched all smokers this was a concern of mine...frankly I was happy to know the issue had been addressed. That made the decision of which smoker to buy 'much easier' especially with all the positive posts on this site for masterbuilt electric smokers.:drool

All in good humor. No insult intended to anyone or anything. The guys here just like to have a good time.

Sooner or later you'll see an opening to give someone a "shot", go for it.

Congrats on the new smoker! I'm guessing the one you purchased is the newly re-designed MES 40 ($449 at Cabela's) and not the older model most of us here have.

I looked at re-designed ones again at the Kearney, NE Cabela's a couple weeks ago and the boxes were all intact (no tape etc). They didn't have any of the older models there.
