Are these ok to do pulled pork with? I can get a couple of 2 to 3 lb pretty cheap. My son is wanting to help with the smoke. I am hoping they will be ok. I do not want a long smoke for his first time. He is 14 and he will get bored if it is more than 6 hours. I want him to get into it with me. Thanks for the help.

Some like the bone in better but I like both.

Your cooking time is going to depend on the temp.

If you go with 225-250 you will probably need more than 6 hours.

I have had good results in around 6 hours at 250-275

I try to get internal temp of 200-205 for pulled pork.

If you are short on time you can go for sliced/chopped and get it off a lot quicker.

Great choice, they will come in around 2 hrs/Lb...JJ

I picked up 2 2.46lb butt roasts. I was thinking 5 to 6 hours total. My son is pretty excited to do it. I can not wait for the morning to come. This is my only second time smoking, so that is another reason. I will post an update tomorrow. Thanks for al the help.

Can't wait to see this.  I'm doing 2 shoulders today for a church potluck...  Personally, I think they're gonna be very lucky!

I'm sure it will be very good. I have never smoked one I didn't like. I just like some more than others.

I just smoked 2 bone in butts today.

last night I trimmed them then gave a good coat of yellow mustard.

Covered completely with my favorite pork rub. Sat over night in the refrigerator.

By 6:00 AM I had the smoker up to about 260

maintained that temp for 4 hours.

Since I was tired and sleepy, I brought them and put them in a 240 degree oven with my monitor set to alarm at 205 degrees.

The alarm woke me from my nap at 12:00

So in all they had 4 hrs in smoker @ 260 and 2 hrs in oven @ 240

The turned out very good.

That is what I considered doing. Here is the update.... The butts took a little longer than I thought, but they turned out beautiful. They tasted awesome, way better than last time. My son is now officially hooked. He is ready to smoke some more meat. Even if it would have turned out bad, it was worth it spending the day with my son.
