Never heard of Speed Queen. I’ll do some checking around.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
Speed queen is the only thing in any laundry matt I've ever been in no matter what state I was in.
The set I have at home is over 15 years old.

Curiosity got to me since I never heard of Speed Queen. wOA! about $2500 a set! thats up there. but sometimes you have to pay for quality. If/when the GGE dies I know where to go. About to throw down on a Wolf dual fuel, gotta let that pain setting a while.

You still alive Justin?

Good point about SpeedQueens being the standard at laundromats. But they're being used 24/7 by folks with no real care for the machine. If I was young, just starting out with a family and 3 kids of cloth diapers to keep up with, I'd consider SQ. But at my age, I just need one that'll last 20 years doing 3-4 loads per week. My white GE is similar to the one shown. It's gone about 10 years and the timer recently went out. But $25 later from Amazon and I'm good as new again.

But stay away from front loads, anything not made in USA, and digital electronics. The fewer knobs on the top, the more reliable it will be. Apart from SQ, there's really only two companies making washers but with lots of different names on them. I think some have said one has better transmissions but that's something that's changed a lot over the years. They don't really agitate any more...there's a lot of bouncing, etc going on in there. I wish I'd sprung for a couple models up just to get the glass lid so I could see what was happening in there! :-)

One thing to also look at is warranty... I don't remember what our warranty was on our commercial GE model compared to the Speed Queen. But service is important... and sometimes people make mistakes. We bought our new set based on past service, but probably after having them for two or three weeks, we saw a huge flash come out of our bathroom, where they are located, and had been in use but no longer working. Went to the basement and breaker was tripped, reset it and went to restart them, snap went the breaker instantly. Come to find out the new employee that hooked up the dryer cord had done so incorrectly... after a couple weeks of use the washer and dryer welded themselves together! Tried finding pics without any luck. But took a couple pry bars to break the welds... so yes, a second new set.

Took some looking but found the pics,

There ya go buddy. Here's a set you can buy your wife.

Chris
I would show the wife, but I’m still in the dog house!

Did some checking, and there is an independent appliance store that sells SQ for 1300 bucks.
Looks like I’ll have to start charging people for my marriage advice.

Banjo man out.

Any man who doesn't have enough sense to not show his bride the washtub/washboard pic when she needs a new washer pretty much deserves what they got coming. :emoji_laughing:

My wife has a sense of humor, so I could get away with it! But I also know what two words would come with it! :emoji_blush:

Apparently my facial expressions change... my wife notices when my brain is thinking something...she looks at me and says... now what? :emoji_blush:

Do you think you're getting off that easy?
The matching dryer is about the same Ka-Ching.
That's the only way to get out of the dog house.

reviving this thread.

Our GE washer that came with the house started making horrible noises during aggitation cycle. We dont love it. The matching dryer is just OK. mostly works but would cry to see it leave.

Any of you own a Speed Queen? looking at the alternatives, its not really that much more $$ if they ar as good as rated and last as long as they say. If you have one, curious on the model, warranty and if you have used the warranty?

Thanks!
