So in the near future im looking at upgrading from my mes30in to a pellet grill both for two reasons. One being more "real estate," the mes just doesnt have the room I'd like and i think the 40in wouldn't fix that problem as well. I like to be able to fit a whole packer brisket without any trouble plus other things. The second reason is temperature. The mes only goes up to 275 which chicken doesnt get that crisp that I'd like.

So what pellet grill is the best bang for the buck? I dont need a grill that goes up to 500-600 degrees but 300-350 would be great. Plus has enough room for whole brisket or just a bigger cooking area. I've looked at traegers but i feel like you're paying for the name cuase their smallest units is around $1000 which doesnt offer the room im thinking of. All suggestions would be nice!

I just recently upgraded from and MES40 to a Pit Boss 1000SC (similar to the Austin XL)

You can get much higher temps and much larger meat on it than any MES. It does require more maintenance than the MES though. They suggest cleaning out the ash trap every 4-5 cooks, I do it every time since if there is too much in there it messes with the temperature. A mini wet/dry vac works very well for this. I have done a couple full packers, hams, turkey, chicken and various burger/dogs/brats. Since I got the Pit Boss, I have not even plugged in the MES. My buddy bought a Traeger about the same time as I got this and they seem to work the same. Both produce great tasting meat. I was looking for the most grill for my money (read: I'm cheap) and I think I got it.

What I'm hoping is since grilling season is almost over, wally world will drop prices on them and i can snatch one up! In the spring i got a weber spirit grill for 150 bucks, you could say I'm a bargain hunting

I was watching the Austin XL for months on the wally world site. Was out of stock for about four months. 1000SC is the same basic grill with the underneath cabinet. Probes aren't a big deal to me, I have an igrill with four probes. Not sure the deal wally will have on them but if you see them in stock, grab one!

I got a 3rd party website that allows me to set alerts for products I'm looking for, right now the best deal I see on the austins' is $400. I've used this website to get mes30s for $100 bucks and other cool deals like gamo air-rifles for $50 when they usually go for $250!

Mine will get up there but not past 650 cleaned it out to this temp the other day

I'm new to pellet smokers as well. I bought a Pit Boss Classic for $397.00 and have absolutely nothing to complain about. I haven't experienced any of the wild temperature swings others complain about. I also clean it after every use. I've only used it a handful of times, but I'm liking it. My ole stick burner just sits in the back of the lean-to now...

Check out RecTec. I upgraded from a MES30 as well and the RecTec is incredible. Has features that you won't find on other grills until you get into the $2500-$3000 range and depending on the size you can get them for as low as like $600. They have a fantastic warranty and the customer service is top notch.

I'm guessing brickseek.com. The store nearest me has had the 1000 XL for $200. I missed it though. Gonna try to coax a managers at other stores til I get one. Or hopefully my store will get more.
