hey all-
i did a few mods and included some before and after shots. i cleaned it out, then sanded it down and painted it. i replaced the crappy charcoal grates with some perforated stainless i had laying around. i also fabbed up a heat deflecting baffle from a perf pan my work was throwing away and extended the chimney down to the cooking grates. the thermometer was located too high (and broken) so i relocated the therms to be at meat level. the original front shelf was really small and hurting so i replaced it with a proper one footer. what do you think?

Looks like it turned out really good.

Nicely Done!

Nice job on the mods...

Just one question, is that elbow you used to extend the chimney Galvanized?

Well it looks like you have done a fabulous job and your smoker so now go fill it up.

Very nice. One thing though, when you use it that pretty front shelf is going to get crudded up. Mine did and it broke my heart after all the sanding and staining and sealing. Wife says it gives it character.

Nice BBQ! Nice Bike!

I like the pictures of the BBQ where you have the bike hidden in the background and you can see the Triumph Label. Soemtimes I wish I wasnt so tall / big so I could have a Bonnie or Scrambler or Thruxton.

I like my Guzzi tho!

Looks like you did a hell of a job there! I still have a couple I need to get done on my SNP split top. You're gives me great inspiration to get started again!

i think it is, but i don't think it'll get hot enough to matter. i have a torch though and could safely burn it off. i think i'll do that thanks!

thanks. i'm waiting on a new afterburner b/c this one's going to be a gasser. i don't want to fill up the firebox with charcoal now... i just cleaned it out!

I don't think the galvanized flue matters as it's outside the cooking area and after the business is all done.
You don't have to go tree hugger, enviro wacko, OSHA type crazy with this kinda stuff, just use common sense.

I think the point being made about possible zinc contamination within the smoker is probably a valid one. It's the same reason that even the lower end BBQ tools are even stainless.

When I did the stack mod on mine, I used a section of 3" aluminum flex tubing, similar to the heavy duty dryer vent material, but smaller.

For the record, the dreaded "Brass Chill" is a painful affliction of the foundry industry prior to environmental controls, it occurs due to the vaporization of zinc when casting brass.

That's all we're trying to suggest preventing, not tree-hugging; I drive an H2!

word. i'll torch the thing.
thanks,
guvna

EDIT - is there a way for me to tell if it's made from aluminum?
