Ran across a random thread yesterday about smoking and pizza so I thought I would give grilling one a try. I am at work at the moment so I don't have access to the pic's but I will upload those later. I started by getting a package of pre-made dough (I don't have a kitchen at the moment), some boar's head pepperoni, Italian sausage, pizza sauce, mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers.
Got home and fired up the chimney charcoal starter on the Webber. I ended up using some foil as I didn't think had any wax paper (wife found it later) poured some olive oil on the dough, foil, and my hands. I made two pies about the size of a paper plate and put them directly on the grill. It didn't take long about 15-20 seconds for them to cook on each side. Once done I then sautéed the onions, bell peppers, and sausage on the grill. Once those were done I then put the sauce on the pizza, onions, bell peppers, sausage, and then the cheese. I then moved the coals over to one side of the grill and put the pizza's on the other side. Put the cover on and about 15-20 minutes later (maybe longer) when the cheese was golden brown they were done.
I was surprised how well they turned out. They were great!
Side note:
Make sure the grill surface is extremely clean and well oiled up before putting the dough on the grill as it sticks pretty good and works itself into the grate.
I know....
:worthless
But I will fix that later :-)
Oh ya I vote we have a pizza section on the forum!
