What up... and greetings from Central IL
Based on the lack of severely negative reviews, I just got a GOSM and will be looking to break her in this weekend! I had to get a smoker after going to a friend's house on the 4th of July who smoked some ribs. The sweet perfume that wafted through the air all afternoon is still stuck in my nose. I'll be looking to duplicate those efforts.
Thanks to all who share their knowledge on this site. Lots of people are passionate about their BBQ and based on the experiential learning involved, anyone who shares info is helping all us noob's out.
My tiny, tiny bit of BBQ experience:
Years ago, I had a charcoal brinkmann that seemed to be more work than it was worth. I gave up on it after about 10 attempts. Despite the quality of output (food), I didn't like the set up of that unit because adding water and charcoal was extremely difficult - you basically had to take apart the whole thing - a gigantic hassle. I'm sure there are better charcoal models, but I liked the price of the GOSM. I got the gas smoker since there appears to be reasonable acceptance of the simplicity without too much criticism by the die hard charcoal fans.
