What up... and greetings from Central IL

Based on the lack of severely negative reviews, I just got a GOSM and will be looking to break her in this weekend! I had to get a smoker after going to a friend's house on the 4th of July who smoked some ribs. The sweet perfume that wafted through the air all afternoon is still stuck in my nose. I'll be looking to duplicate those efforts.

Thanks to all who share their knowledge on this site. Lots of people are passionate about their BBQ and based on the experiential learning involved, anyone who shares info is helping all us noob's out.

My tiny, tiny bit of BBQ experience:
Years ago, I had a charcoal brinkmann that seemed to be more work than it was worth. I gave up on it after about 10 attempts. Despite the quality of output (food), I didn't like the set up of that unit because adding water and charcoal was extremely difficult - you basically had to take apart the whole thing - a gigantic hassle. I'm sure there are better charcoal models, but I liked the price of the GOSM. I got the gas smoker since there appears to be reasonable acceptance of the simplicity without too much criticism by the die hard charcoal fans.

Welcome to the SMF. Jeffs 5 Day e-course is a great start to learn. Sounds like you already know how to search this vast chunk of info. Also, jeff's rub's area good investment. (a few $) Enjoy.

Welcome to SMF glad you joined us. There is a wealth of knowledge available here. I have a GOSM widebody and like it. Recently we have had a couple members have problems with their new GOSM's for this reason please make sure your smoker is well away from the house and stuff for the first five or six times using it. Seems there was a problem somewhere around the regulator and hose fittings by the tank. Not everybody has had problems only a couple but be safe the ones I know of did not happen the first time lit either it was a smoke or two into its use. As I said many of us have used ours often and never had any problems so this is kinda rare but still. So get that thing seasoned and get to smoking and be sure to post us some Qview.

Welcome Bloom, There must be an awful lot of nurseries over there by you. I have ordered plants and seeds from bloomington. Unless It's just one and they have several names. Great place to be and glad to have you

Hey Bloom,

Welcome to the SMF. I also have a GOSM. Got it for Father's Day this year and turned out some great smokes this past weekend on it. You should love it. One recommendation, use chunks of wood instead of chips. Dont even bother to soak them. I seem to only use Hickory and love the flavor. Good Luck and hope to see some pics in the future.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on that new smoker.

Welcome to the SMF. I also shared the same experience with my Brinkman. Glad to have another GOSM owner with us.

Welcome to the forum. I am a central illinois noob also. Just bought my GOSM about 3 weeks ago. So far have smoked a pork shoulder for pulled pork, made some beef jerkey, and smoked a pork loin. Still learning buy my mistakes are not tasting too bad so far. welcome
