Apple Wood and Apple Cores??

So, I love apples and I eat a lot of them.  I also love using apple wood smoke on everything except beef.  So I had this thought, what if I saved the apple cores from all the apples I devoured, dried them out, and burned a couple of them along with the apple wood when I smoked?  I mean, people use corn cobs, right?  So would this work to add something different and sweet to the 'cue or am I just downright crazy?

My addition...The Apple Powder in the Rub, dehydrated cores sans Pits, would be great but if you tried to smoke with them you may find the residual Sugar would burn and give an acrid flavor to the meat...JJ
