I was taught how to sharpen drill bits by hand. Haven't done a bunch of metal work since I've gotten bench and floor drill presses. I have a bunch of indexes, different types of bits, etc. Just wondering if anyone has used those drill bit sharpeners and if they actually work? Thanks.

If you use a lot of drill bits, they are most definitely worth the investment. I’ve had one for 20 years and absolutely recommend them. I just used mine today, sharpened a 1/4” drill bit to start a hole to install a Weber grommet in my new OK Joe smoker.

I've had one for years works great. I 've only used it on bits from say 1/16 to 1/2 inch. Once you get use to it set up and sharpening go really quick. I've got the original model, I think some newer ones have come out since then.

Thanks all for the replies. I've got a few pretty old (and dull) indexes but good quality bits/steel. Would be nice to know I can sharpen them up and keep them for soft metals and woodworking. I don't have a problem buying new bits (or whole indexes) for specific metal projects.

Thanks again!
