Hello, my name is Brian, and I'm addicted to barbecue.

I've had this sickness for as long as I can remember, and it feels good to finally say it!

After years of paying good money for the sub-par BBQ that is found in northern Illinois, I decided to take matters into my own hands and make it my self. Last year I bought a Brinkmann vertical smoker and have been using it on and off to satisfy my cravings for brisket and ribs. But now my normal "fix" just isn't doing it for me anymore and I am forced to try new and exotic things. This weekend will be my first time making pulled pork. I'm a little nervous and really excited about the prospect of adding to my repertoire. While I'm at it, I will also be smoking a fatty just for something for everyone to munch on. Their first taste is free, and hopefully I'll get them good and hooked on the smokey goodness that I'm am learning to make.

I will continue to read all the posts and post questions as needed. Hell, if I feel that I have anything of value to add, I'll respond to a few topics too. However, I feel that my limited experience pales in comparison to the Masters on this board and I would be stepping on toes by offering any advice....

So, please keep posting the great recipes and help me keep my addiction alive and well!

Welcome to SMF and congratulations on admitting your addiction.

Be careful with it, I read somewhere in these postings “the fastest way to a double chin is to buy a smoker"

Welcome Chowderpants. There is a wealth of knowledge here and there is always room for more. Don't worry about stepping on toes though.... I think we all know that there are different ways and techniques to do everything. It's always good to to have options. I'm still pretty new and I throw advice in from time to time and sometimes I'm corrected, but then I learn something new. No egos here friend.

Brian,

 Welcome to SMF!

If ya got something to say, just chime in. We don't bite. (well squirrel might).

They don't cotton to drama on this site at all. If you give advice or get advice from someone that may not be the norm Someone will correct you or them.

If you can smoke ribs and brisket , You should be able to do a butt in your sleep. ( and YOU WILL have time for a nap.)

Any questions ,please feel free to ask. As the only stupid questions are the ones never asked.
