I don't own one but they have gotten good reviews. There is a post on this site from back in 2014 and based on the pictures it looks like some amazing results. They did say that they have made a few modifications such as a charcoal basket, nomex gasket at the firebox and a new thermometer. It will be a little more work than your pellet smoker but the learning curve should be brief. Good luck!

I have an American Barbecue Systems All Star and really like it. I'm not an experienced cue master and the only other smoker I've owned was a Oklahoma Joe horizontal smoker. I can say the All Star is very easy to operate (takes less babysitting) and is very easy to clean. I've only ran briquets in it, but plan to run chunk going forward. Mine came with the minion burn plate. I haven't made any modifications to it, but it could use some insulation on smoke chamber and burn chamber doors. I have only smoked ribs and chicken so far, but the results have been great. Looking forward to expanding into tri-tip and brisket this summer.
