I am new to this forum, and had a question.  i am in the process of building a UDS and saw on online, the pit master i believe it was called that had two hole close to the top for hanging, has anyone ever done this with the standard UDS.   By standard i am referring the design where you use 3/4 ball valve to regulate air and have the other ports for starting.  does anyone know if this would affect the heat, would i still need a top vent or stack...any ideas or suggestion would be appreciated.

I'm a fan of several holes, around the top of the sides of the drum, for uniform exhaust and heat distribution...   I'm thinking about 6-8... 3/4" holes down about 1 1/2" from the top...  Windy days can be overcome with refer magnets.....

It shouldn't hurt your temp control. Drill the holes as close to the size of your rod as you can. When not using the rod(s) plug the holes with a cork plug, or a wad of tin foil. You can also use high temp duct tape. 3m makes it. I buy mine from Ace Hardware. Usually located where they display fireplace stuff.
