When I got married back in the 70s my brother gave me a bottle of wine with no advice or notes on the wine. I was not a wine drinker back then and I put it up over a kitchen cabinet. On our first anniversary we opened the wine and with cheers we tried it and both said uck this is not good. We dumped it down the drain and recycled the bottle. Several years later I was talking to my brother and he said do you still have the bottle of wine I gave you for your wedding and I told him we drank it on our first anniversary and it was real good… He looked at me funny for a bit then said do you still have the bottle. I said no we recycled it. He looked at me again funny and after a few seconds said the empty bottle is worth around $500.00 today… I never asked what the full bottle would be worth if I still had it.
It was a Lafite-Rothschild. Back in the late 60s early 70s he used to buy cases of wine years before they made it and got a real good price but you have to wait to see if the wine turns out good. This was a bottle he got from one of those cases.
I like red wine but I am not an aficionado like my brother. I mostly drink box wine although I do like to try different wines once in awhile.
I am looking forward to this forum and to see what others are drinking.
