A time for honesty... lol

I am new to this forum and new to smoker builds.

I have an old offset smoker from wally world that is cheap and leaky but make pretty good tasting meat but is labor intensive to keep a constant temp.

I am contemplating a couple of different builds for my usage.

Which option is dependent on my living circumstances not the type of build I conduct.

One option is a trailer build with some type of barrel smoker. 

My question requiring honestly is once you have the smoker all mounted on the trailer how often do you actually move the trailer out of your driveway or yard?

personally I cannot see doing it very often but circumstances change.  I dont do competitions because I dont have time. 

So while thinking of the various options I might consider, I was wondering how often you all actually move your smokers that are built onto a trailer after the "new" wears off of them.

It all depends on your personal life and friends. I dont have any so mine only leaves the yard about 10 times a year.

I say build something that is practical for the type of usage you plan to put it to.  I can't imagine doing a trailer build unless I planned to haul it around and feed lots of people often.  For me, I don't do competitions and I don't do catering.  I fire up a smoker once in a while and smoke a couple of butts or a couple of slabs max, so a patio size rig makes the most sense for me.  One thing to think about is how much fuel your rig is gonna consume in relation to the amount of Q you plan to produce.  I would wager that if a guy did a trailer build but only did small amounts of Q at a time, the newness would wear off a lot quicker than it should and that guy might find himself smoking a lot less than he'd anticipated because he doesn't want to burn a truck load of wood every time he wants to smoke a slab of ribs or two.   Food for thought.
