I have the pitboss 4 series vertical pellet smoker from lowes and would like to add a little more smoke to my cooks. My question is if I add an a maze n tube would it work in my smoker? Does anyone have any experience with this? I have a 5x8 tray i use for my other smoker cold smoking cheese. Thanks for any advice!

I'm not a pellet pooper, but have you tried the tray yet? That may work in your smoker. The tube puts out more smoke then the tray and it may be to much smoke for your size smoker(again sorry I'm not familiar with pittboss brands). I know the tube works well in gassers and in higher elevations where the O2 is at a minimum. I would try your maze before purchasing the tube.

I will give it a try for sure. I have just read that the tube smokers work better when there is a flame that consumes the oxygen, but wasn't sure if the flame from the pellet would make the difference. Thank you for your response!

What you've read is correct. That's why tubes are perfect for gassers. If your pittboss has a fan then that may create enough airflow to keep the maze running without over-smoking. Hopefully someone with real time experience will chime in and let you know if it will work.

Non pellet pooper here as well, but I think you are on the right track.
Try the tray first and if it works out for you, then you've saved yourself some money.

Drying your pellets may help it run without buying a tube

I always nuke my pellets before using them in the tray. Sounds like it should work then since my smoker has a built in fan and the pellets that are burning are not creating as big of a flame. Thank you for the responses.

The tray will usually not work in a pellet grill as the flame consumes much of the O2 being pushed by the fan. Still, some have got it to work so it's worth a try. The tube should work for sure - and probably won't produce too much smoke for your tastes.

I use the Amazn tube in my YS640 often. Works great. I have both hot and cold smoked with it. Need to make sure the pellets are burning well or it will go out.
If your PitBoss has a fan I don't see why it would not work

I use a tube in my pellet smoker for cold smoking without it even turned on (No fan) and it works great. I also use it when turned on (Fan) works fine.

For cold smoking I pop a small Fan under my hopper box where the Grills fan draws air and that gives a little bit of circulation so I dont get any stale smoke, without the fan it still draws fine.
