Are there other fuel options than pellets for the tube and tray units? I prefer chips due to convenience of local purchase.

You can use saw dust, but you can't use chips.

I am guessing too much air flow thru chips causes a burn out instead of smolder?

I have mixed a handful of chips in with the pellets in my tube smoker a few times, which works OK...but I doubt only chips would perform the way the device was meant to work.
