It's been well over 6 months since I fed my bread starter. It was just sitting at the back of my fridge. Took it out and gave it good stir to blend all the liquid and doughy bottom back together. Fed it 3 times and back in business 🙂

Made two loafs today. Tried out my new fancy dancy bread pan. Makes a perfect square loaf. Baked just as fast as a regular pan so my timing is not going to change. 45 minutes at 300 F makes the perfect loaf in my oven.

NICE! I think it nearly impossible to kill a starter. Ive ignored mine many times and it always comes back

Yeah, I regularly go a few weeks, then just grab a tablespoon full and rebuild over a few days.

I could not even get my starter started, molded out in a week. I did have an emergency trip out of town that did them in. Going to try again in a few weeks.

I would say you either have issues with the water you're using or the jar . Clean the jar as a starting point . I've been using spring water from the store , or put some tap water in a bottle and let it sit a few days with no lid . It should off gas .

I was taking from a water cooler 5 gal bottle, but who knows what might have been growing inside...lol. next time I will just grab a bottle of Costco water from the garage and do that. Does water temp matter?

I just use the filtered water off the refrigerator door. Never had a problem.

You got me looking at those loaf pans. Pretty interesting. I dont make bread often but thinking of getting one.
They are different for sure. I was conserned with checking for the rise of the dough. Kind of went with the open pan and when it was ready the closed one was also ready. Guessing next thing I need is a bread slicer. LOL
