I haven't seen a salute to the 4th here today...
240 years ago today a bunch of folks decided they'd had enough of being used and told the King of the most powerful nation in the world to kiss their collective butts. After a few years of hardship and blood (and a little help from France) they lived to tell about it.
They developed into a Republic devoted to individual rights to freedom of speech, religion, property and dignity. Although weathering some internal struggles (bickering as brothers and sisters will) for a number of years, they themselves developed into a powerful nation, the most culturally and racially diverse, economically and militarilly strong nation in the world. They still have internal struggles and bicker (as brothers and sisters will), but still cherish those ideas of individual rights to freedom of speech, religion, property and dignity.
Here's to another 240 years....:beercheer:
Happy Birthday, USA!
