We've tried LC's and Gates BBQ. I'd say go for LC's and get the pork and/or beef burnt ends, their sauce is good, brisket was good. I might step on toes, but I felt that Gates was overpriced and overrated, although I liked their sides.

I'm sure there are KC natives who can give even better recommendations. Good luck! 😋

I'm not from KC but visit often. Joes & Jack Stack are popular. Q39 is another option. I've watched several "best BBQ in KC" you tube videos also. There are a ton of places to go.

I haven't been personally but near the airport, Scott's Kitchen and Catering at Hangar 29, has been getting a lot of praise. If your willing to venture a bit further you can't go wrong with Slaps, Q39, or Joe's KC. Jack's Stack in the Freight House District is good if you want a little nicer dining experience. My personal favorite single item is the sausage at Zarda's in Lenexa. If you want "old school" try Arthur Bryant's or LC's.

Joe's KC BBQ (especially their original location) is absolutely phenomenal. As much as I love brisket over pork, The Rocket Pig is my go-to over the Z-Man. Arthur Bryant's is another good place, especially their turkey and burnt ends - but if you could only make it to one, I would go with Joe's.

I have been to Q39 twice now and both times were horrible. Burnt ends were inedible and the brisket was so dry you almost had to dip it in water so you didn't choke on it. I will never go back!

I have not had KC BBQ out near the airport so I can't say xxx is the best place to go. All of the places mentioned are solid. Even the lesser known places can be phenomenal. So, just pick one that's close and enjoy.

Thanks for all the advice. We ended up at Jack Stack based on the people from the plants advise. We did a late lunch on the way to the airport area. The food and experience were excellent.
