Is there any advantages to having (for example) 4 small firebox inlet dampers over having 2 big ones of equal square inches? Like four 3" x 6" instead of just two 6" x 6"?

No...but according to Feldon's calculator I need 55 square inches. The question was sort of general...all my measurements can be found here in a thread titled "is Feldon's calculator really flawed?"

I see. Two up high and two down low would be best. Makes sense.

I want to add an ash pan to the FB also. Does it need to be made out of 1/4" steel like the rest of the FB, or can it be lighter? 1/4" pan would be pretty heavy...
