...split barrel design gives easier access to the food on the bottom cooking grate.
You can also buy or make an oil drumsmoker (or UglyDrumSmoker - UDS) which will also give you good results.
Here is a photo showing the use of bullet smokers at the Grillstock BBQ competition. Yes, that...

Hello all I'm from iowa and relatively new to the smoking world but I'm learning fast! I built my first UglyDrumSmoker and I am having a blast smoking on it! I'm looking forward to reading what everyone has to share!

if you are looking in the 200-400 range i would recommend a WSM (Weber Smokey Mountain) 18 or 22 inch or a pit barrel UDS(uglydrumsmoker). There is also some budget offset smokers if you are willing to put some time and money into modifications. someone who has modded like a...

Do you know if it is possible to get more of an offset smoker flavor from an UglyDrumSmoker. I'm talking about more of a Texas smokehouse flavor. My UDS has only been finished for a few days and I have only done one brisket. I did notice that the juice and fat dripping onto the charcoals...
Finally got UDS built. Have tried it twice
First time 3 hours for ribs - slightly overdone and pecan wood was quite bitter
Second time pork loin 6 hours cooked but not tender - probably needed to be slightly longer/hotter apple wood was nice
Will need plenty of practice

Hi All, my name is Hansi from Camarillo, CA. This summer I build my very first UglyDrumSmoker and so far had a lot of fun with it. So far we made tri-tip, chicken and pork ribs and for Thanksgiving we plan on trying a smoked turkey. I'm still struggling on controlling temperatures and part of...
I will definitely look into that. I could also angle the top as well if I couldn't find someone to roll a sheet or find a tank.
I get what you said and it makes sense. I will work on putting the stack out the side and look more into the bottom adjustment or reverse flow.
