I had to buy a new laptop. And it qualifies for Windows 11. Has anyone used it yet? If so. What are your thoughts about it.

Not yet, but Microsoft is nagging me constantly to upgrade from 10.
I'm a little worried about how it will get along with Firefox, which I like.

I just got a new system and did the upgrade, seems fairly stable so far. Being north of 50 I don't like the interface trying to emulate a tablet with programs being called apps. But Win 10 was the same way. I have to say one thing I don't like is it opens the Microsoft browser Bing everytime it comes out of sleep mode or when the computer is restarted. I have not found a way to remove the program(...OK app) or disable it so far.It is just an annoyance really.

I will say the upgrade took a long time and had to walk away as I really thought it froze.

Using it on a new laptop. They have removing the Start button and starting apps is a bit annoying. On the positive, set up easy and easy to synch between computers Microsoft/Google so its same settings/favorites/password preservation between computers and phone.

I just asked our IT guys last week about Windows 11 as my home computer is nagging me about the free upgrade as well.
They said there are only minor differences - now - between 10 and 11.
When 11 first rolled out, there were "issues" that now seem to have been patched.
They also said Windows 10 will be supported for a LONG time.

Thank you. With that being said. I think I'll wait a bit before switching.

Thanks. I was planning to stick with 10 anyway until they stop updates....

I want 11, but my hardware is "not compatible". Seems odd because the PC run super fast still - well I did change the spinning platter HD for a solid state one and that made a HUGE improvement/difference. and was super easy!

My office computer runs Linux but we have a W10 computer in the house. At this point no need to update the Windows PC to 11 until forced too which with the constant reminders will probably be sooner than later.

I had a newer laptop that came with 7. I decided to take the free upgrade to when when it came out. A lot of stuff stopped working correctly.

Our IT people did the same thing with my work laptop when they ended support for 7. Same thing. Just wasn't compatible.

I just bought a new laptop last winter and it works great. I'll stick with 10 so I don't screw up another one.

If you don't plan on installing any new programs that would require a specific operating system, then it is perfectly okay to stick with what you have. Chances are, for at least the next 5-10 years, software developers will make their programs W10 compatible, else they'd lose sales to all the old OS users (fat chance of that happening).

For instance, I'm still using Windows XP on an old HP netbook and it runs everything as it always has. Sure, the OS has not updated in over a decade, but it still runs everything that was installed back then.

I'm also using a new Surface laptop that came with W11. The new OS is okay, but Microsoft appears to be going the way of Apple - they think they know what is best for the user. For example, Microsoft has taken away the ability to move the taskbar from the standard bottom of the screen position, which is a pain for me because I'm also using an old Surface Pro using W10 which has the physical keyboard overlapping the bottom of the screen. I moved the taskbar to the top of the screen so using the touch screen works better (because the keyboard is in the way with the taskbar at the bottom). With W11, I cannot move the taskbar, and am stuck with the bottom center position. Sure, there is a registry edit that can circumvent that, but who wants to mess with the registry.

I've never used Microsoft support for anything (my friends and Internet searches can give me any solutions I need) so the threat of loss of support from Microsoft actually means nothing.

I had to completely update my computers (2 desktops and a laptop) and all came with W11. I like it less than W10. Sadly, many of the upgrades in programs I use (I'm an accountant) the upgrade turns into a downgrade with LESS functionaility. Obvious some code warriors are not getting good 'que

I thought they learned their lesson in removing the start button and making the interface look like a tablet with Win8?! It was a complete disaster. Many people used 3rd party shells until they finally patched it to allow a more traditional Windows desktop interface.
