What's your go-to base wood? do you use that only for pork?
thanks,
guvna

If i could only have one wood it would be Hickory. With that being said on my last brisket and butt smoke I tried cherry and its pretty good.

I have to ditto everyone thus far..hickory...there are so many other ways I like to impart a flavor into the pork, and since I am trying new stuff constantly, I know the consistancy I will have with the hick chunks..
just my .02...

Hickory is always the first choice for me. If I've got some I like to throw some apple in too. My family likes the 50/50 blend the best.

Oak is my go to wood for fuel in the stick burner - lots of hurricane knockdown for free! Flavor additive of hickory, and hickory would be my all around choice if I didn't have to buy it in bags of chunks!
