Whiskey Barrel Staves

Met a guy today that makes whiskey barrel items. He told me i could have as many scrap staves as i wanted. Tomorrow he will have even more.

That should work great for smoking. You just going to add them to charcoal? I just got some that are infused with rum. These are shredded though. Can't wait to try them.

Usually white oak, they should be great for smoking and I'm sure there'll be some hint of whiskey somewhere...

Starting with lump then throw couple these on and follow with some oak splits.
The nice guy sent me a txt, said bring a larger box.

Not long ago they almost gave away old whiskey barrels. I had two 1/2-barrel planters that got decommissioned into firewood last year. Be nice if I still had an offset.
Probably just go for firewood.

Whiskey barrels around here go for big money. Heck of a score finding someone getting rid of cuts.

Built this cabin down at my buddies farm where we deer hunt . Put some of the old barn wood on the gable end wall .

Thread hijack
1/2 Whiskey barrels were $5 back in the 2000's. That was imported from Kentucky and Tennessee to Minnesota. The plastic inserts to make them a planter was $10
I noticed the price of barrels increased when the craft brewers started using them to condition (market) product.
Barn wood has been hot for the last 10 years or so in MN.
I'm hoping the tobacco hanging shed wood is popular due is simply due to lower tobacco growing

I'm sure you will enjoy them....to me, in the family of 'nut woods' oak is similar to pecan, so not as strong as hickory.
I was gifted a box of oak wine barrel staves one year. I really liked using them on pork and lamb.

Several years back, my neighbor from across the street, (who worked for Jack Daniels) procured a garage full of used barres. Asked me if I wanted one and of course I said YES. He rolled one over to me and I still have it in my basement living room. He also used to give me any new products that Jack Daniels made. . .Man I miss him! To my dismay he moved to a distribution area in Ohio.
