Butt for me. However, I must confess I need to do a brisket soon so I can say I prefer one over the other for smoking as I may stink at it. (I certainly do prefer Butt for taste due to how I was raised on pulled pork but brisket can be mighty tasty.)
 
i have to go with brisket here.... love the bark and make a sauce with drippings it is just so beefy... hands down!!!!!
 
No contest, Brisket without a doubt. The whole experience from prep to slicing of the brisket is more satisfying to me.
 
Well, I am definitely a red meat lover over pork. However, I've only smoked 3 briskets, each one better than the last but was not real excited about the turn out. Therefore I guess if I'm doing the smoking my vote would be for the butt!
 
for us IOWA folks......thats coming to the gathering, you will be able to decide better, cause TWO butts, and TWO briskets will be smoked........
 
i like butts for the eaze of em, can't screw em up, but briskets for the challange..........so i guess i can't vote........LOLOL
 
Since you ask which one I would rather smoke, I would have to go for a butt. I have smoked a couple of briskets and I do not have it figured out yet. However, if your question was which is my favorite, then I would have to go with the brisket. I had some in Texas that made me want to move there. You cant beat a good brisket, if only I could smoke one for myself.
 
for smoking (the actual act of smoking) I'd prefer butt because it's harder to screw up. For eating... brisket, thick sliced with a touch of bbq sauce.
 
Yea, thats what I was gonna say before I got side tracked by my own sarcasms.

Briskit is more fun to smoke cause its harder to get right. Butt is as close to set it and forget it as you get in bbq. They got enough fat to compensate for variance. Briskit is like landing a plane.

It ought to be a standard that all OTBS members have successfully smoked at least one!

They really are not that hard, and I don't think they are any harder than a butt,(other than turning and / or putting in a pan) and for me, they are usually a shorter smoke than pork butts or chuck rolls. Picking out a good packer is probably the toughest part of getting a good product.
 
Hmmm-must agree andy-as OTBS you better get a brisket in soon-as far as I 5ft 11-160-and a fine butt they say I have (smoke)but I really like my brisket-after laurel and I played-I kept going and just geting better-still smokin butts though-but prefer brisket.
 
Tough....hehe....get it....... I know groan, groan, groan.... It's difficult to find a good brisket in here these's parts of Michigan. Gotta go with the butts. Always been a butt man myself
