What was the last concert that you went to?

There is plenty of talent right here in the USA. When these kids reach the age of touring bands many of them will be so much better technically there will be no comparison with 70s- 80s and 90s bands. Will the music industry ever be the same as it once was hell no, but the music will be out there if you search for it. Not a doubt in my mind, the talent is there, you don't have to worry about that.

I sponsor a young lady that I met at Guitar Center 3 yrs ago, she was shredding a Stevie Vai solo.
She was 12 years old at the time.
Her mom was filming her.
When I asked her mom how long she had been playing? she said not even a year.

After the girl was done playing, I asked her what type of guitar she plays at home. What she said next blew my mind.
"I don't have a guitar, I'm a drummer"
I asked her how she got so good on the guitar, she said she plays once a week for an hour before her drum lessons.

Right then I knew she was a musical savant.

I asked her mom if I could give her a guitar, and you could tell she was a little uncomfortable with the idea. I asked her to call her husband, I hear the guy say hell yeah he can.

I met them at G.C. the next weekend and gave the little girl an American-made Fender Telecaster, a 25w Roland Cube amp, and everything she needed to start playing at home. Her and her mom both cried, her dad gave me a big hug and thanked me telling me they couldn't afford to by her a guitar and amp, because she was taking drum lessons, vocal lessons, sax, and production lessons.

Fast forward to today, She is playing two hour shows locally, she went to Namm, and got to play with Stevie Wonder and his band.

She has been voted best in class two years in a row at the Berkelee School of Music in Boston at their summer program.

This kid is going places, and I met a wonderful family, we have become very close friends.

I help them pay for her lesson, and equipment that she needs to perform live.

I told her as long as she gets at least a B average in school, I will continue to support her music journey.


And all I expect in return is front row tickets to her first big stadium gig.

And for her to pay it forward to help others that need help.

Honestly, it's one of the coolest feelings that I've ever had, knowing that she will definitely pay it forward.
I've seen her personally helping other at G.C.

There are kids out there that are flat out amazing musicians.

Like I said, I'm not worried a bit about our musical future, we'll be just fine right here in the USA!!!

Once we get rid of the bubble gum crap they are making right now.

Most of the kids I see that are excelling in music are into old school rock n roll.

Interesting you mention that. The last concert I saw was back in February, went to see Def Leppard at Caesars Palace in Vegas. Early in the show, Joe Elliot was talking about how long they've been doing this, and said this was now 49 years they've been touring. Doing a second residency in Vegas at the time, and likely will do more. Every show sold out, and they sounded like they did in the 90s (saw them several times then too).

But you make a good point about the lack of "talent" nowadays. Not to say there's none of them with any, but it's very hard to find any that actually train to be in music. Whether it be playing an instrument or vocals.

Some examples, Pat Benetar had vocal lessons basically from the time she was able to talk. And considered going to Juliard (grew up in NYC) but eventually stuck it out singing in clubs trying to get noticed.

When Neil Schon and Jonathin Cain were looking for a vocalist for Journey, they found Arnel on Youtube and brought him to the US just to hear him without Protools. Only to find out he couldn't afford Protools and all his stuff on YT was just him live.

Can't find it in his wiki, (smallest wiki ever) but CJ Snare, lead vocalist and founder of Firehouse, was a classical concert pianist...

Boston (founded by Tom Scholz) basically only used the band members when playing on stage. All the studio work (everything but vocals and percussion) was played and mixed by Scholz on equipment he built, (he was an electrical engineer) and recorded and mixed in his spare bathroom. This was true through their 3rd album, and a lawsuit even ensued trying to force him to use a studio. He refused, and eventually won the lawsuit as well.

If you search YT, you can find original recordings of Brad Delp laying down the vocals for some of their songs. Just the vocal tracks. Word on the internet leads you to believe those vocals are being extracted with ai or some such bs, but no, it's just the original vocal track recordings with nothing else audible. Still, unprocessed other than Scholz analog tube processors (which btw are industry standard through out the music industry today. Seriously high dollar stuff). Show me somebody in their 20s today who could scratch build their own sound processing equipment and become legendary in music... Most aren't even good with a mouse...

No matter how good you are, there will always be somebody better; this hold true not always but a high percentage of the time. I'm sure he had plenty of mentors in his youth to get him to his level of expertise. Not many people were just born with it, they studied under someone with very talented teaching skills. People say AI is going to be the end of music, it may be if you use it. The girl I wrote about above refuses to use anything digital; she wants to learn how the big names did it by using old recorders, amps, and mics. I give her high praise for that. The kid will go as far as she wants to in music, she has what it takes to become a huge name in the industry. Will she? That is yet to be seen, but I think she will be very famous one day.

If she doesn't get any better (she will), but if for some strange reason she doesn't, she's already much better than 90% of the autotune poser's out there today. She plays 5 instruments, sings, and does her own production at the age of 14 years old; that's saying something.

And she has an amazing family, that sacrifices a lot of money and time to support her. I pick up what they can't afford to cover, and will as long as I continue to see her desire to become better at what she does, and as long as there is progress, and I have the means.

And with a few breaks, the right leadership and guidance from people like you she will make it.
Living in a college town with a VERY continuous live music scene, the kids here have a great opportunity to be seen and heard. I have the privilege to share the stage most weekends with kids in their 20s trying to make it. Love helping them along as they start their journey towards the music industry.

My woman and I saw Luke Nelson, yup Willie's son open for Tedishi Trucks. To night at the Greek Theater in Berkeley CA.

I'll tell you what Luke has a set of pipes on him, his voice can also sound exactly like his fathers voice when he was younger.

After T& T took the stage I was completely blown away but her guitar playing. I knew she had and amazing voice, but had no idea how well she played the guitar.
I haven't seen Derick Trucks since he played for the Allman Brothers almost 30 yrs ago.
The man is a wizard on that Gibeon SG his tone is unmatched, his timing and slide playing is the only thing better than his tone.

By far the best concert of 2026 for us, and we have been to 10 shows so far this yr.

When Tedishi and Nelson teamed up for a song, was magical, their voices are flat out amazing together, they harmonize absolutely perfectly together, while Truck's destroyed that old maroon Gibson SG with his trademark slide playing.
It was an unbelievable show, Tedishi and Truck's band included a full horn section along with two drummer's and an amazing group of back up singers. They had 14 people on stage most of the night, the fewst they had was 12. It was utterly amazing, to say the least.

If they were playing here again tomorrow night, I'd be there for sure, it was that good .

It doesn't hurt that Derick Truck's is in my top 5 guitar players list, his tone, oh man, his tone is frick'in unmatched. He owns the sound of that old Gibson SG.

Unfortunately I had some real asshats right behind me who thought they were at a loud bar and spend Lukas talking about stupid shit. Nothing more annoying than people who just talking over the music. We had words a few times until I just flipped them off. Luckily between sets I ran into a friend who was in the perfect seat. When Tedeschi Trucks Band came out it also sounded much better dead center. Band was on fore (as usual) and Susan came out on stage in a short dress. No librarian look this time. Got a great set list and a two hour and twenty minute set. Listening to a pretty nice recording now.

Something like that happened at a Michael Buble concert here. Was with my wife & daughter, a few rows back from front. A group of obnoxious, drunken women were seated directly behind us and kept leaning forward and screaming in our ears. Security wouldn't do anything about it, and it ruined what would have been a great night.

Haha, we had the exact same thing happen to us. We were in sec 3 row 5 or 6 great seats, but they were killing my back big time. So I would've move with out the drunks behind us. (I guess what do expect from a college town venue.)
We moved up to the lawn dead center as low as you can get. And I was able to lay down. My spine is held together with screws bolts and rods, I'm like a human Erector set.
I'll never pay for seats again at the Greek, the lawn is where it's at from now on. Next time I'll bring a blanket to sit on thought. The couple next to us slid over to make room for my wife on their blanket, which was super nice of them.

How about Dericks tone, HOLY FOOK, I wish I could get that tone out of my SG. I can get close, but nothing like his tone .

We only live 20 miles away, up against the CA Delta, but we decided to us some of our points and stay in a hotel right down Telegraph. Just getting ready to hed home now to beat the traffic.

After a quick stop at Acme bread.
I love their Grandma's pizza and bread.


Even with the dick heads behind us we had a great time.
I'll travel to see them again, if I have too.

Her voice is unbelievable, she harminizes with the instruments like no other. She is my favorite female vocalist in todays music.
Right up there with the best ever in my opinion. Man, that woman can sing and play that guitar!!!
