I just received my first smoker for christmas. A 40" mes. Ive read a few threads about generating good smoke in these you need a dedicated smoke generator. Which is the better the amnps or the masterbuilt smoke generator attachment? Again im new and just trying to learn without wasting money. Thanks in advance for the comments.

You don't "have" to they a separate smoke generator. What they have does work, but having one makes life a lot easier and less stressful.
Now that you have a smoker, in my humble opinion this is what is needed next. BTW it is what I have been telling my Dad who is showing a renewed intrest in smoking.

An accurate way to monitored the temperature of the cook chamber and meat. The Maverick 732 does a great job and is a good deal compared to others that are out there. The Masterbuilt smokers are nice, but there thermometers are hit or miss.......

The AMNPS will do you very well. It takes a little getting used too, but between Todd's amazing customer service and the other members here. You can get it done easily. The pellets and dust that is sold with the Mazes are of high quality and are what they say they are as the wood goes. This is what I told dad to get.

I am not a fan of too many moving parts or electronics for things that are out in the weather. So would steer away from the electric disk feed smoke generator.

Hope this helps.

Try the chip pan in your smoker, before you venture off and buy a gadget to generate smoke

You may just surprise yourself and be totally satisfied with the results

I have an AMNPS and I love it! And it makes cold smoking a breeze, once you try smoked cheese you won't want it any other way!

I see this is your first post here, when you get a minute would you do us a favor and go to Roll Call and introduce yourself so we can get to know you and give you a proper welcome, also would you add your location to your profile, we like knowing where you are when we talk to you, Thanks!

Thanks. I will find my way around this place soon. TJ in one day i realize that the amnps is your product and that is pretty respectable for you to say what you said rather than shove a product at me. I appreciate that. I guess i should add more info. One reason i went electric is i didnt want to have to mess with it every hour it was on and the chip tray only lasts about 45 minutes. Another thing is im looking at smoking cheese and veggies and ive read the temps dont get high enough to keep the chips smoking. Jar ive been looking at the mavericks also as i like the idea of a backup

Using any smoker takes some skill and practice

Every smoker has a learning curve, but electric smokers seem to have a lower curve than gas, wood or charcoal smokers.

I guess that's why so many of of are drawn towards electric smokers

The AMNS & AMNPS are cool little gadgets, that were born out of my frustration with my brand new MES 40

The Tube Smoker was born out of my frustration with my own pellet smoker

Also, the AMNPS 5x8 made #4 in Steven Raichlen's Holiday Gift Guide...Very Cool Accomplishment!!!
