What size wood should I be using for my GOSM smoker?

I have used the sawdust type and the wood chip type. Should I be looking to order big chunks?

They usually don't sell chunks at my local Gainder Mountain but after looking at some online sites the sizes vary.

You can get chunks at Walmart, H. Depot, Lowe's.

If you plan on using chunks, figure out what your going to place them in. I use an upright coffee can drilled w/holes for air, and I mix RO lump and two chunks per load. On the size of the chunks, this might be dictated by what ever you'll use to place them into. Generally speaking, you'll use chunks no larger than your hand, or even a little smaller. Whatever type of wood you use, go easy. Too much wood can create creosote, which is a health hazard to avoid. If you have large clouds of white billowing smoke, you're burning too much wood at one time. Go for the Thin Blue Smoke. It's all good my friend.

   Eriksp,why do you want to spend money?Spring has sprung and someone is undoughtedly cutting some Furit or Nut trees (trimmings).

   Get your saw and(you do have a saw?) cut little disk of the limbs and they'll dry in a week or so to cook with, then you know what size  and type you like better!
