Well,,, it’s most usually a very thick cut rib steak. That in itself is worth something if you enjoy rib steak.
 
I like it for the ridiculousness factor. Now granted, I've never had one since beef prices went crazy, but on my birthday I tend to request silly things that I would never do on a regular basis. Usually it's a crazy thick T-bone cut that our little family of 3 eats and we still have leftovers.

No real purpose to me other than that.
 
They give guys a perfect opportunity to play with their food.

Dog likes the bone only thing I ever figured out……
Cooked bones splinter easily and can be very harmful to dogs.
