What do you do about smoking in Winter?

Yep I can attest to that. The manifold does the trick (so far at least) Preheating it is a big step forward I think especially up here. Luckily I can do it in my firebox but if your firebox is to small preheat it with one of those propane bottle torches. Once that thing is up to temp it draws the heat from the firbox right into the smoke chamber.
That big chunk of hot steel in the smoking chamber really makes a difference.

Winter smoking? Is there another type?

Well living in northern MN we have two seasons. Winter and Road Construction and road construction is short. So I do most of my smoking in the winter up here. Our deer season can end when it is very cold (most years) and that is when most of our sausage is made in the smokers.

In some ways I enjoy smoking when it is a very cold (0 to -10) out with no wind. Smoke just rises up in the smoker and it is much easier to control the temps. Besides that if we only used our smokers during the summer it would not get use a whole lot.
