I get enough garbage email and now this arrived in my inbox. I don't want more clutter and clicked the opt out link
The turn off options didn't appear to differentiate between the unsolicited (Weekend Inspirations) emails versus my requested emails of forum thread postings.
Answer?

When you click Opt Out and/or Turn Off, you're just verifying you read it.
Just delete it.

When I get emails from “Smoking-Meat.com” they are always labeled “Jeff Phillips” not smoking meat. So the label in your inbox would or should tell a lot. All emails in my box from here are labeled “Smokingmeatforum”

I don't think I have an account with S-M.com anymore. I always elect to never receive emails from any site I may be a member of. I actually went through the tedious task of unsubscribing from so many different things I literally now receive less than a dozen emails a week.

OK more information.

I am very cautious on the source of emails. It appeared to come from Smoking Meat Forum as
the reply email was "[email protected]". I used to admin a website and the email dump account was "[email protected]. That meant anything emailed to the website that didn't have a registered user got sent to me.

The attached link took me to Eric's SmokinEdge post which I verified before clicking.

I never clicked the phantom link. Right click gave no information

It pretty much appeared a legit email

Yes i did and there wasn't a multiple choice to delete email options.
It appears the admin needs to figure this out

If you have all these un-ticked you shouldn't receive any emails from SMF.I get none from SMF ever.

Fueling Around , sorry for the delayed answer - it was a legitimate email sent out from SMF and I'm the one who set it up/scheduled it. Basically promoting SMF threads, while also tinkering with the email system and HTML formatting, and playing with simplifying the template that goes out currently.

I much prefer simple links and pictures over the email "wrapper" that's used now, but that's subjective.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to opt in to only certain *types* of email, although bmudd14474 knows more about the email system than me. You can either subscribe to SMF emails or unsubscribe.

You have some choices as to what you see but with email its usually all or nothing. Not sure if we can change that or not. We will look at it.

The email options in my opinion are good . I changed mine a few years back , and it stopped the clutter . I say " clutter " , but it was all things I had checked that I wanted .

Check / uncheck what you want / don't want , and makes sure you hit save at the bottom of the page .

I did however receive several emails for watched threads , that I have unchecked / don't send in my preference list .
