Weber grill brush recall

Thanks for the heads up Norm. Had a friend a while ago that got a wire bristle stuck in his gum after a cook. I have stayed away from them ever since. I have a wooden scraper that works well or have just balled up some HD foil and that works too. Also, just to be on the safe side I will take a handful of EVOO wetted paper towels and run over the grates before cooking.

I always thought this was some urban folklore, wives tale...about the bristle ending up in food. The recall makes it real I guess, or someone used them and won - more likely.

I like the wood paddles better.

Matter of fact the replacement is so useless it just went out with the garbage. Been using the Weber metal bristle brushes for decades without issue and now they're nowhere to be found.

My recall replacement has been pending for months. I recently got an email telling me the ship date would likely be in July. They told me to use half an onion to clean the grates in the meantime...

Yeah, not impressed with their response. Ironically, the metal bristle brush would never be used on grates anyway. I have a WSM cooker, and the hack for periodically scraping the interior walls clean is to take the Weber brush, find a tree of about the diameter of the WSM (there are WSM-standard 14" 18" and 22" trees out there :emoji_slight_smile: ) and bend the brush against the tree so that the curvature matches your WSM. Works great, no worries about where the bristles might end up. If they break loose, they fall into the ash pit.

As for what I use on grates, they are also metal bristle...I'd never worried about it until I started seeing threads here. But my brushes are two-sided, metal bristle on one, plastic scrubby on the other. I start with the bristle side, follow up with the plastic scrubby side, and don't worry about bristles getting left behind on the grate.

I run these scrapers, much like the one Justin linked.

And yes they for to the grates very well. I have one for the rec teq and one for the weber with Grill Grates.
Just don't leave them hanging around... I had dogs in the past thought they were quite tasty!

Valid point! Im sure my dogs would love them! I keep them in the weber cabinet, the cover makes it impossible for them to open, or one of them would. One of our dogs is astonishingly smart and has very keen senses. Speaking of that, kinda surprised the bears havent gone after them...

Thanks for posting. I will no longer use the Weber brush I have. Any suggestions for a replacement? Which brands?
Grill Rescue brushes seem quite solid. Cleans a griddle beautifully as well. It's made out of a flame retardant material like a firefighter suit and encapsulates a sponge of some sort, ultimately cleans a hot grill very well with steam. I always dismissed the wire bristle fear until I recently saw one glimmering on the grate. Granted, I did see it and remove it, so all was well, but it sure caught my attention!
