Water pan ?

Going to do my first smoke on friday on my MES30 Gen1 and was wondering when everyone talks about just foiling the waterpan are you lining it or covering it over.Thanks Lou

I just cover mine over.

I have a different set up, but I fill mine with water and cover.  I am only looking for the water pan to hold the heat in my smoker, not for moisture.

Menards had clean play sand for $1.88 a bag I was going to get.  Just to have on hand for the winter months if needed.  The MES seems to recover quickly without it.

Cover it in foil.

Foil over the empty pan to use it as a grease pan.
