Do you mean convert a hand grinder to electric or make one completely from scratch? Easiest thing would be to get a #22 off eBay and hook a washing machine motor to it. Could use a jack shaft to get the rpm right if needed.

I'd be interested in what you come up with. I'm all about build your own, But in this case I'm afraid even for a small one, you will be into it in time and materials for enough to buy a used commercial unit. (300 lb capacity). I work with a commercial everyday, which means I clean it several times a day everyday. I see all the details of how it's made and how it works.

The throat and worm are going to be the biggest nightmare. Easiest way is to cast and then have them machined to sharpen. If you have a fully outfitted cnc machine shop (and a really talented programmer) it can all be machined. If you have to pay someone to do it, the worm alone is likely to cost as much as a used commercial.

Of course I can be a little short sighted and can't imagine other than the current design trend. If you come up with or across a different design concept I'd love to see it and maybe give it a go.
