Thanks to all ,,,

My father also served in the Korean war. He was an Air Force Mechanic with in-flight status. Not sure what the in-flight status meant as he didn't speak much about his time overseas.

Chris
I think it means he flew on the aircraft as part of the crew.
  • Qualification and assignment: "Flight status" signifies that a mechanic is qualified for and assigned to a role that requires flight experience and participation on aircraft.
    • Crew role: When in this status, the mechanic is considered part of the flight crew, analogous to a pilot or loadmaster, and has a direct responsibility for the aircraft's mission.
    • Rules and regulations: Mechanics on flight status must adhere to specific rules, such as the prohibition of alcohol or drug use within a certain timeframe before flight duties, similar to other aircrew members.
