Short answer: I dunno.

Longer version, I think it reasonable to be a bit suspicious of any tech originating in China (I'm looking at you, TikTok!) , but that covers a LOT of ground.

The link below details some serious concerns about TP Link routers, and the link below that claims there is nothing to it. I'm not familiar with these linked sources, and so don't know if either has a particular editorial bias. The latter link does correctly point out that ANY router is going to have some security risks. However, in searching I did note that there are a lot more sources saying it's a problem than there are saying not to worry about TP Link routers.

One of my go-to sources for computer security issues is the Computer Emergency Response Team site at Carnegie Mellon University. It lists a bunch of vulnerabilities for these routers (many of which are common to most routers), but it hasn't listed any new vulnerability in almost a year. Might be worth keeping an eye on that site to see if anything new crops up in response to the proposed ban.

HUH! Well thats a new one... Ive had a couple and currently use a TP Link. I dont see how they could ban them as in make them illegal to posses?? Maybe stop the sale? But seriously, if someone hacked my laptop there is nothing of value to anyone but me, and I have it all backed up. I think companies would a higher risk and deeper pockets to replace as they want.

I dunno...seems like if the government looks hard enough and twists the statistics enough they can make a story out of nothing.

Security vulnerabilities... Dont we hear this about nearly every online device at some point?

Then they better start banning 99% of routers as that's about the percentage made in China including Ubiquiti.

Asus and D-link and a couple others are made in Taiwan.

If you want US made...best of luck.
