Went to the local butcher and asked if they sold Tri-Tip and he said 'all the time's. He went into the back and came out with the meat all wrapped up. Thought it was odd that it weighed in at 3.8lbs but didn't want to question my only local butcher on his skills. From what I've seen online thought this is not what I wanted, seems like aloa more meat to me...

I've got brisket's from him before and he cut it right off the cow, he let me come watch. I assume the tip came right off the cow too but it doesn't look like anything I've seen online
 
Interesting that the grain is all in one direction and it is the entire length of the cut. The grain usually flows from one of the corners on a true tri tip. And it is WAAAAAY too lean. That's not a tri tip. See pics below. Best I can do in my files to show the grain.

Yeah, that's no tri tip. Looks like a cut from the bottom round. Id be literally fuming if that's what i got. Id take it back honestly.
