Morning all!
Last week I got tired of trying to find a tri-tip around here. So, I paid dearly for a Piedmontese tri-tip.

The plan was to cook it at the camp. But got busy. And forgot to thaw it out.
So, I got it thawed out after we got back yesterday. But now the weather is being a pain. High winds.
So, it got seared and roasted with some baby taters. ..

Pics not the greatest. But the meat was excellent! Even have some for lunch.

Im kind of a tri tip purist, I was appalled when my buddy said that his wife had one in the oven for us when we got home from fiehing.
She convinced me that T.T. doesn't have to cooked hot and fast over an open fire. It was one of the best T.T. meals I've ever ate.

Yours looks KILL'er, Steve.

Thanks! I normally. When I find them. Will grill hot and fast. This is the third or forth time I've done them like this. As long as you get a decent sear before putting in the oven. They come out great. I was a bit upset about putting this 75.00 piece of meat in the oven though!

$75 for a TT? Damn! I get pissed when they are over $20. At least you enjoyed it.

To me the only way to cook them is on the Santa Maria grill. Gotta go to Walmart after I drop off the niece tomorrow. I will add a tri-tip to my list.

That Piedmontese site is $$$. But the meat is the best I've found. I bought their 80oz boneless strip roast. For 137.00. I can justify that. I can get 5 meals from it.

Looks great Steve! I can find TT at Food Lion most of the time now. It's $9.99/lb. for USDA Choice, but I'm sure I feel sure it's not the same quality as the Piedmontese. That's good stuff...

Thanks Charles!

Nice cook . Wish they were cheaper and easier to find around here . I've only done one , but it was some of the best beef I've had .

Now , about that grain direction on the slice ,,,,,
Lol! Thanks Rich! It cut with a fork regardless the direction!

Looks delicious! Tri tips have been elusive around here lately also... but an awesome cut of meat for sure! No matter which way it's sliced lol!

TRITIPS ARE MADE FOR A KETTLE STEVE, LOOKS LIKE THE OVEN WILL DO IN A PINCH, NICE WORK! I USED TO BUY THEM UNTRIMMED FOR A $1.99LB WHEN WE LIVED IN CA. MOVED TO AZ WHEN THE PANDEMIC HIT AND GOT USED TO PAYING UP TO $4.99LB, HATED IT. MOVED TO WEST TEXAS A MONTH BACK, THOUGHT BEEF MIGHT BE CHEAPER HERE, IT'S NOT, NOT AT ALL!

Thanks Ryan! I think the tequila decided on the slicing!

My original plan was to put it in a basket. And use the rotisserie at camp. The last time I found a TT here was going on 5 years now. Ann scored one while I was redoing the kitchen. I think it was around 5.00 a pound then.

NICE. I had my first TT not too long ago and totally get all the rage about it. I am with @chopsaw might be the best beef I ever ate. Much better flavor than tenderloin. Texture was a tad tougher BUT still very tender. IMO it's basically perfect. I personally would rather have TT than ribeye.
